Artist Profile
ANNA MAY TORRES-LACSON

I worked as a banker for almost two decades before finally starting my journey as a visual artist. I started exploring with acrylics, pastel, watercolor, gouache, brush-pens and later on discovered that what I loved the most is oil paint. I love playing with vibrant and bright colors or muted and eathly tones. I'm also fond of creating impasto, and expressive visible brushstrokes with my works, for me it’s like showing a map on how the art-piece was made by the artist. My paintings are done with the awareness of light and I love to express my works in an impressionistic way of painting.

I am a mom of three and my role as a full time mother has never been a hindrance for me being an artist. This has given me great lessons in life from which I can share and express in my creations.

Year 2020 was like a blessing in disguise for most artists specially during those months when everyone was in a “Stay Home Stay Safe” protocol (due to the Pandemic) artists had more time to paint and be creatives. That year brought me new learnings, discoveries and opportunities. I began exploring on a different style in painting were I combined my line drawings with painting and expressing Filipino themed subjects in a cubism and expressionistic style. This even led me to pursue a small business of printing my art on tote bags and mugs which I never expected got encouraging remarks from friends and family. As artists we sometimes have to explore and have fun.

Painting is a continues process of learning and facing challenges. As I go forth with my art journey, I follow this Mantra of 3 Ps - practice, patience, and perseverance. Asking God to bless my work and always thanking Him for this gift. Telling myself I am an Artist and I have been given this responsibility to share this gift to others. It is WHY I am here and I have to fulfill my mission… MY PURPOSE.

We are all CREATIVE beings and everyone of us have been given a GIFT. Whether you’re an artist or not, each one has a unique gift from God. And when you’re given a GIFT it comes with a RESPONSIBILITY, you owe it to the world. Whatever your gift is, whether it’s, painting, singing, dancing, designing, writing, teaching, cooking, cleaning, baking, gardening, making others laugh, riding a bicycle, driving, etc.

You owe this GIFT to the world and you have the RESPONSIBILITY to share this gift to others. It is WHY you are here and it is your PURPOSE.
